My Eurofiction update

I have so far only submitted two out of the three stories for Eurofiction. I missed the last one as I was on holiday and a week wasn’t enough time for me. I so far have scored diddly squat but as they say it’s a marathon not a sprint. Unfortunately I am in a race all of my own and it looks like I seem to taking part in the three legged spoon race. I’ve not been put off though and have already completed a story for task 4. One of the prompts, however, I have only just realised was the same as the story I wrote for task two (different prompt but the story took on the same direction as this one). I am very inclined to resubmit the same story but using the advice I was given along with my zilch points. What do you think?? Your advice as always is invaluable to me.

  1. I wouldn't as the judges will recognise the story and give you 0 points again!

Don't be disheartened by the 0 point scorings. I know of lots of people (including me) who got low scores in Eurofiction and went on to sell their stories/win prizes in comps with them! Juding a short story is very subjective and sometimes the judges just don't like what someone else will love!

  2. Thanks Calistro. I shall definately take your advice and send the new story. I won't let the lack of points get to me (much). I'm just going to take all the advice I get on board and hopefully score at least one point by the end of it!

  3. Yes, I was going to say don't submit the same story, but don't give up on it either. As Calistro says, you may be successful with it somewhere else. Keep up the good work :o)

  4. Karen - Thank you. I won't consign that one or any of them to the recycle bin just yet. I think they were all good ideas (in my opinion) so I'll work on it some more. I'm definately using the new story. Not sure what I was thinking really.

  5. I don't really have any words of wisdom (not being a writerly type) but I'm cheering on the sidelines...

  6. Thanks C - support is just as good as the advice itself. Thank you!
