I made it - just about

I started my training for Race for Life after work yesterday and I was quite shocked at my level of fitness. I must admit I got a bit cocky telling the girls at work that 5k would be a piece of p*ss. I only managed to run for about 4 minutes which was actually broken up by stopping at the local supermarket (which I didn't realise was so close), putting my laces back in my trainer twice and picking half a dead fly out of my eye. That was the last straw for me so I decided to call it a day and walk back home. After that measley bit of running I am now in agony (forgot to stretch when I got home). After that feeble attempt I would just like to salute Sarah G and anyone else taking part in the Flora London Marathon this year and say I am sooo not worthy.

A Grand Day Out

First of all many apologies once again for my lack of posts, visits, comments of late. It's been very hectic and as this may continue for the next week or so I shall just say one big SORRY in advance rather than me boring you with my profuse apologies here, there and everywhere. I'm still reading/writing wherever I can but life is getting in the way of my art right now and if I weren't so taken over by 'stuff' I would feel down about it.

I did have a fabulous weekend in my pretty froral dress as boyf took me to Liverpool to watch the Grand National. I won £7 (and lost £10) and got to drink and eat all day for zilch. Needless to say I was a very happy bunny all day. We spent the rest of the weekend in Chester, did a bit of shopping and generally just chilled.

This weekend may not be so chilled as we are moving house. Not sure If I am actually moving out of the house yet myself as we haven't been given our moving date yet. It's all very boring and headachy so I'll let you get the general idea of how fun my weekend will be if you want to.

On a final note I am running Race4Life this year. I've put a little widget on the top right hand corner of my blog if you wish to sponsor me to run further than I have ever run in my life. I'll keep you updated on how my training is going (as I am yet to do any!) and hopefully get some writing relating topics in there too. I'll be doing the blog rounds later I promise. I've missed my fave blogs sooo much.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Funny Funny Funny!! Yes it was that funny. I am slightly biased because I just think Kevin James is hilarious. I was gutted when King of Queens came to an end. This film is short and sweet, which is good for me because I do tend to have the attention span of a nat (I'm assuming they have little or no attention span but I'm sure you get my point). Towards the end I found myself repeatedly turning to my friend in surprise (to her surprise) and saying 'I was not expecting that!!'. If your looking for laughs a plenty (albeit a little silly) and you like Adam Sandler humour (this film is made by his or the production company HappyMadison which makes a lot of Adam Sandler films) you must go see this. Its not one of those films that you must watch in the cinema for its full effect but it makes for a funny evening out. I went with my friend and as she is 5 months preggers and could only fit into tracksuit bottoms it was either a trip to the gym (HAHAHAHAHA) or the cinema and you can guess which one I would never have chosen.

You are now leaving lazyville, don't come back now!

No writing done so far this week. I am slipping big time with the word count as even though I have been doing the 100 words a day I haven’t stuck to my 354 words a day target if I’m to get the first draft finished before my holiday/brothers wedding in August. I need to get my backside into gear if I’m going to get CIM finished. I wouldn’t mind but I haven’t even been busy this week! The lull started because I took Saturday off to go to a MAC technique class to learn how to put my slap on properly. I had a good day and although this has nothing to do with writing I figure that whatever I do is research for that next story or character. Saturday night we had a BBQ just to make the most of the weather and because big bro came to visit from Cornwall for his Christmas dinner. We haven’t seen him since last year so we all got presents, so exciting!!

So in light of my frequenting lazyville yet again I am vowing to blog more, write more and be online a little bit more. I’m being very unsociable lately. I come home from work and I can’t bear the thought of turning the computer on. Normally I can’t wait to log in. So I’m turning on, logging in and not tuning out.

Weekend in Jersey

I had a lovely weekend away with boyf visiting my relatives in Jersey. We were so lucky with the weather as it had been threatening to rain the whole time. We spent Friday visiting the War Tunnels and trenches.

Then it was off to the Maritime Museum. We got in free as my Aunt gave us her Heritage Card. There were plenty of nautical activities within the museum to educate and entertain even if (like me) you don't have a clue about wind pressure and tides.

We finished the day off by heading up to Gorey Castle, which is fascinating. We dressed up in pirate costumes, walked past the wheel of urine and came across a 3D picture of the Queen. It was so life like.

Saturday was spent watching Ireland win the Rugby and getting very drunk while Sunday we strolled along the beach and then onto the pier at St Catherines where we managed to spot some Dolphins.
Unfortunately Monday was spent making the journey home. Monday was spent unpacking and packing (the house move isnt happening yet but we will be ready when it does) and Tuesday was spent round boyf's for St Patricks Day treats (my first time trying bacon and cabbage) sadly I had to stick to the juice as I was driving. Still there is always the weekend.

Leeds Castle

On Saturday me and boyf took a trip to Kent to see Leeds Castle which has been home to the likes of Henry the Eighth and his wives. We were lucky with the traffic and the weather so the trip only took about an hour.

The views on the walk to the castle were beautiful. Shame about my dodgy camera phone!

Once inside the Castle we got to see the bathroom and sleeping quarters of the Hon. Lady Baillie, Catherine of Aragon and below the Queen's bedroom.

Outside the Castle you are given the opportunity to find you way through a maze. I got quite annoyed by this after about 20 mins. I have no sense of direction at the best of times! Once (and if) you find your way out you can visit the grotto, there was no Santa in this one but a scary face on the wall.

After a wonder around the aviaries (there were Guinness Toucans as I like to call them) we took in a live Birds of Prey show. This man was so good with the unruly ones (children not birds) I took a few more pics on boyfs camera which I hope to post here soon.
Luckily the weather stayed nice yesterday as well as me and lil sis did a car boot sale. We got rid of a lot of stuff we can't take in the move and made a tidy profit from it too. We have a lot of stuff left over so we shall prepare for another one soon.
With all that going on I did no writing and will not get a chance this weekend either as I am visiting relatives in Jersey. I shall have to make up for in the week to lower that daily word count. I haven't put my last writing attempts on ywriter yet so I dread to think what it's at now.

Slumdog Millionaire

I have to say I was really looking forward to seeing this film. The buzz surrounding it made me curious to see what all the fuss was about and despite it not being my usual type of film (I'm more of a romantic comedy lover myself) I really felt like I took a lot away from it. It's not just a way to pass a couple of hours on a Saturday night, it was an experience you don't get from a lot of films. It wasn't a funny story, far from it, but it was funny in places where you have the young Jamal taking tourists for mugs, and the youngest Jamal covered in other peoples waste. Doesn't sound that funny but it was oddly cute nonetheless.

I was engrossed in the story of how Dev Patel's character Jamal, a contestant on India's 'Who wants to be a Millionaire' explains how, after being arrested on suspicion of cheating on the show, he came to know the answers most people wouldn't. With each question comes a torturous memory and how the experiences of his childhood with his brother in the slums of Mumbai leads him to be one question away from the jackpot. While he explains how he came to be able to answer such impossible questions he tells of Latika, the girl he loved and had let go.
This is essentially to do with winning love over money and takes you through what people are prepared to do to get these things.
The youngest actors in the film are amazing to me and could out act plenty gracing the red carpets of Hollywood these days. There was nothing about this film I didn't like. The sound track, the story, the actors, the setting - all perfect. It wasn't made on a ridiculous budget which kept the story realistic. It was thought provoking while entertaining all the same. It most definitely gets 10 out of 10 from me.
